AceShowbiz – Drew Barrymore has found a professional photographer in her young daughter. After her plans to do a magazine cover photoshoot in New York City got hindered by the coronavirus lockdown, the former “Santa Clarita Diet” star employed 7-year-old Olive to make it happen and recalled the experience in a candid essay.
Writing a piece for The Sunday Times Style, the 45-year-old recounted how the cover shoot turned into an intimate family affair. “Sure, it’s not the traditional way of doing things but … I see this time as an opportunity to do things differently! The Sunday Times sent me a bag of disposable cameras – color and black-and-white – and a bunch of Polaroid film (Polaroid and film! Yaaaas!!!!!),” she began.
“The first day, we went to the beach at sunset and brought a trunk full of clothes that Style had sent,” the “Never Been Kissed” actress continued. She noted that she and Olive got the help of Christy Doramus, “a woman I have worked with for almost a decade, who lives nearby, and kept her [6-foot] distance,” for the beach photoshoot.
In the article piece, the mother of two further confessed that there was a moment during the photo session when she and her eldest daughter with ex-husband Will Kopelman started to argue with each other. It prompted her to jokingly brand her little girl “the world’s smallest and moodiest photographer.”
Barrymore has also made use of Instagram to spill details on how she got Olive to agree on taking the role as her photographer. Along with a series of behind-the-scene photos, she dished on the conversation she had with the 7-year-old, starting with her asking her daughter, “Olive will you take pictures for the @theststyle photoshoot. Its for a magazine people work for years to shoot for!”
When Olive asked her why she is asking her to do her shoot and who normally does it, the “Charlie’s Angels” star answered, “A photographer. But right now, the world is in a crazy place. Everything is an opportunity to do things differently! So what do you say? Do you want to be my photographer?” To which, Olive replied, “I’m honored to be your photographer. I like taking pictures, so thank you.”
As for the experience doing a photoshoot on the beach amid the coronavirus pandemic, Barrymore shared in the article piece, “I changed right there on the chilly sand, and looked to see if anyone was around … but no! The world is very quiet right now, and you can feel it.” She added, “One minute it’s haunting and the next minute you feel like the whole world is a playground.”
