AceShowbiz – After being long-rumored to have bleached her skin, Meagan Good finally broke her silence on the matter earlier this week. While she could have just ignored the rumors, the actress decided to explain that her visibly lightened complexion was due to botched skin treatment. Now, Meagan shared as to why she decided to speak out.
“It broke my heart to think that there’s little girls seeing this commentary and thinking it’s true,” she said of the rumors during a recent appearance on Ashley Dunn‘s “Where Is the Buzz TV”. “It broke my heart that in a season when you have young Black men and women being murdered everywhere that someone would think for one second that I don’t love my Black skin.”
“The Intruder” star admitted that it “bothered me. And when it all first happened, it was extremely traumatic because I went to this woman for a scar removal, like a dog bite on my leg.”
Detailing the botched skin product that she got from an unlicensed aesthetician, Meagan said that she initially hesitated to use the product which was aimed to correct a sun damage mark. “She said, ‘Try my products. I think you have a little sun damage on your forehead.’ And I said, ‘No, that’s okay. That’s like natural contour, girl. It’s great. It’s fine,’ ” Meagan recalled.
However, the star was eventually convinced to try it and some other products. “I used her anti-aging products and they were phenomenal. So I was like, ‘Oh, she’s the truth.’ And after I used her anti-aging product, I did find out that she was unlicensed. But I didn’t think it was a big deal because I’d already used her products and I felt good about it,” she said.
Meagan went on saying that the aesthetician told her that it was “needed to be even so just use it, wash with it. Your whole face.” That was when the actress noticed that she was getting lighter. “I started freaking out and I said, ‘What’s going on?’ And she said, ‘Oh no, no. It’s just going to lift the damage first and then everything will come back.’ And I said, ‘Oh ok, cool.’ And I saw myself getting lighter. And I was like, ‘What is happening?!’ And she was like, ‘Oh, don’t worry your color will come back.’ And I said, ‘But when is it going to come back?’ She said, ‘It’ll come back soon I promise.’ “
After two months, however, the color didn’t return. Adding that her partner DeVon Franklin was also freaking out, she continued, “Then I book this TV show. I go to New York to film this tv show. I’m feeling so insecure and just not liking the way I look. And then those pictures happen.”
Earlier this week, Meagan set the record straight after she’s accused of bleaching her skin. Responding to a fan’s comment, she wrote, “I didn’t Queen. A (unbeknownst to me) unlicensed aesthetician gave me a product to correct a sun damage mark on my forehead that messed up skin. By the grace of God only.”
The 38-year-old star went on explaining, “I’m about 80% through recovery and regaining my color daily. To be honest it was a beyond painful and traumatic experience because I would never wish that on anybody. I’d really appreaciate if you wouldn’t continue to spread assumptions and rumors. Godbless you.”
