AceShowbiz – Burger King has unleashed the fury of Taylor Swift‘s fans. The hamburger fast food restaurant chain is risking losing many of its customers after it tweeted a sarcastic joke about the country-turned-pop superstar.
It all began when someone asked the Burger King Twitter account what its favorite song by the pop star is. The account snarkily replied, “The one about her ex.” The tweet has since been deleted, but not before it caught the attention with Swifties, who are now trying to cancel the burger chain by making #BurgerKingIsOverParty trending on blue bird app.
They took issue with the tweet, which was deemed “sexist” by one user. “You have s***ty burgers anyway,” another blasted the burger chain, while a third fan ditched Burger King for one of its rivals, “After all this Burger King controversy…now I want McDonald’s.”
Others, however, think that Taylor fans overreacted to the joke. “no we are NOT cancelling the creators of the impossible whooper for this stupid s**t #burgerkingisoverparty,” one person reacted to the trending hashtag. Another added, “# BurgerKingIsOverParty is higher on trending than #GeorgeFloydWasMurdered … are some of y’all brain dead.”
Taylor previously fired back at “very sexist” opinions about her work, saying many male artists write and release songs about exes but don’t face the same criticism as female artists. “You’re going to have people who are gonna say, ‘Oh you know, like she just writes songs about her ex-boyfriends,’ and I think, frankly, that’s just a very sexist angle to take,” she told Australian radio show “Jules, Merrick & Sophie”. “No one says that about Ed Sheeran. No one says it about Bruno Mars. They’re all writing about their exes, their current girlfriends, their love life and no one raises a red flag there.”
