AceShowbiz – Coronavirus pandemic leads companies to allow its employees to work from home as a part of social distancing practice. For Twitter employees, however, the duration of their work-from-home has been recently extended indefinitely.
Twitter Chief Executive Officer Jack Dorsey confirmed the decision in an email sent to the staff on Tuesday, May 12. First obtained by BuzzFeed News, the email read, “We were uniquely positioned to respond quickly and allow folks to work from home given our emphasis on decentralization and supporting a distributed workforce capable of working from anywhere.”
“The past few months have proven we can make that work,” the email from the company, which was “one of the first companies to go to a work-from-home model,” continued. “So if our employees are in a role and situation that enables them to work from home and they want to continue to do so forever, we will make that happen.”
Meanwhile, the email stated those who want to return to the office will probably have to wait until September. “When we do decide to open offices, it also won’t be a snap back to the way it was before,” the company shared. “It will be careful, intentional, office by office and gradual.”
Twitter’s employees started working from home in March as the company has suspended almost all employee business travel and all of its in-person events until 2021. Additionally, Twitter increases its allowance for work from home supplies to $1,000 for all employees.
This arrived after other big companies announced their decision regarding when they would open their offices again amid the pandemic. Facebook and Google previously revealed to CNN Business that they’re planning to let many employees continue to work from home through the end of the year. Meanwhile, Amazon confirmed that employees could work from home until at least early October.
